Whilst using biodiesel blends is helpful for the environment, it has its own unique challenges to keep it clean & dry.
Biodiesel can absorb 4 – 5 times more water than petro diesel (B0).
This creates somewhere where microbial growth occurs at a very high rate, quickly contaminating the fuel.
This contamination will quickly block fuel filters on machines & lead to engines starving for fuel (low power).
Modern diesel engines have high pressure & very fine injector nozzle openings which can quickly be affected by contaminated biodiesel fuel. They can become damaged (nozzle hole opening) or will stop them properly misting the fuel air mixture, which will not allow combustion to take place properly.
Poor combustion & reduced lubricity in a combustion chamber can lead to fuel ‘blow-by’ causing fuel dilution & high TAN levels in engine oil, which can lead to engine failure!
